A Celebration of Will

Many of those around me know that I’m an avid cyclist and participate in a ride in October from San Francisco to San Diego.  What many of you might not know is that I have been involved with the foundation that conducts the ride, the Challenged Athletes Foundation, since 2005.  One of my dearest friends invited me to an event back in 2005 and ever since that day, I have been dedicated to the organization and its growth.  Attending that event was really special for me since my daughter had just been born two weeks prior.  Watching those little kids racing without limbs or other disabilities made me realized how blessed I was to have a healthy baby. It was such an inspirational day for me.  I became “hooked” on the CAF from that day on.

Most recently, I had the opportunity to support the CAF’s Gala “A Celebration of Will” which honored the legacy of Robin Williams. Robin Williams was also a supporter of this great Foundation.  This event has been the best charity gala I have ever attended. The energy level of the attendees was off the charts, the performances, the speeches, the guest of honor….the setting and food from Rancho Valencia was top notch. Hats off to my friend and chef of the property, Jarred Moiles, on a superb menu choice. I was extremely honored to be seated in that room with such of amazing people such a Robin William’s family, tennis great Andre Agassi, Bill Walton, Dick Engberg and San Diego Mayor Faulconer. The event raised over $3 million which is the highest ever raised in this city.

This year marks my third year of participating in the Million Dollar Challenge, the 620 mile ride from San Francisco to La Jolla.  I train all year for this ride and it’s one of the best weeks of the year for me. The daily rides are approximately 100 miles each day and they’re simply amazing.  The CAF team does a great job each year making sure each and every one of the 100 riders that participate feels special.
